When Liesel left that day, she said something with great uneasiness. In translation, two giant words were struggled with, carried on her shoulder and dropped as a bungling pair at Ilsa Hermann’s feet. They fell off sideways as the girl veered with them and could no longer sustain their weight. Together, they sat on the floor, large and loud and clumsy.
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
This book has some of the most vivid, visual descriptions of spoken words I have ever read. This was the first passage I read and sat back thinking “wow”…..and it’s an amazing story to boot.
“Putting things in perspective: While we may be twenty-something males, and thus not fitting into the “preferred candidate” category for new renters, both my potential housemate and I have been entrusted with the education of the future generation of business owners, prime ministers, pilots, doctors, engineers and real estate agents. I hope you will entrust us with your property.”—The final part of my ‘cover letter’ for prospective rental properties.
I dived headfirst into a pool of awesome music this year and like everyone else thought I would wrap up my top picks. I don’t *do* favourites normally, so these aren’t in any particular order, except for the order that I wrote them down. They each have their own aspects of amazingness, culminating in an auditory experience of epic proportions.
This album screams summer for me and it screams it so loud that now all my friends think the same. I’m seeing them at the Laneway Festival, I suppose it’s a good thing its in Summer or else I might start getting confused.
Nothing says lazy sunday mornings sitting in the sunshine, eating breakfast, while reading the news with a fresh coffee from the bakery around the corner like Angus and Julia Stone. They probably say a lot more things than that, but this is what this album says to me.
“And now Oprah Winfrey is on the verge of starting up her own “health network,” the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which will take the place of Discovery Health on January 1, 2011. At that point, she’ll have an entire 24/7 cable network to spread her New Age woo, woo like The Secret that entrapped Kim Tinkham. That’s why, on the eve of Oprah’s new cable channel, I think it’s time to remind Oprah of Kim Tinkham. Yes, Oprah has forgotten about Kim Tinkham. It was, after all, nearly four years ago that Tinkham was on her show. She made good TV for one episode. Now she’s dying because of a course of action that had its roots in New Age nonsense that Oprah Winfrey promoted. It’s entirely appropriate to remind Oprah Winfrey of what she has inadvertently wrought. Indeed, in the wake of Oprah’s recent promotion of faith healer and “psychic surgeon” John of God, doing so is more imperative than ever.”—
Oprah is currently in Australia and I hate how much everyone (government, media etc) is kissing her ass. No one seems to question the stuff that spews from her mouth because they just see the tourism $$.
